What we do
Unleashing Hope for Forgotten Sled Dogs
We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome sled dogs in Northwest Colorado—preserving the ancient art of mushing while giving each dog a second chance to run, play, and be loved.
Donate
Help give retired and rescued sled dogs the care they deserve. Your donation powers their second chance, from shelter and food to vet care and love.
Adopt
Many of our sled dogs are ready for a peaceful retirement in a loving home. If you’re ready to offer compassion, they’re ready to give you loyalty.
Sponsor
Not ready to adopt? Sponsorship helps cover a dog’s daily needs and medical care. You’ll receive updates and know you’re changing a life.
Volunteer
Join us in caring for the dogs and maintaining their environment. From feeding and cleaning to supporting trail days or summer camps, there’s a role for you.
Know a Dog That Needs Help?
If you know of a dog in need, abandoned, lost or alone—reach out to us.
Who we are
Where Forgotten Dogs Find Purpose Again
Snowbody Sled Dog Refuge is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving dogs from uncertain futures. What began as a sanctuary for aging racing dogs has grown into a mission-driven operation that gives each dog a new path—whether through adoption, sponsorship, or simply the joy of running free again.
We’re here to protect the legacy of mushing, to connect people with nature and animals, and to show what’s possible when love and second chances lead the way.
Be Their Constant Support
our mission
We give sled dogs purpose, not just shelter. Each rescue is a chance to heal and run free again. It’s a mission rooted in compassion, movement, and belonging.
Hope Starts Here
Each dog we care for has a unique background, but they share one thing in common: a second chance.
More Than Just a Rescue
Each dog here has traveled a different road. Some raced for years, others never knew kindness. At Snowbody Sled Dog Refuge, they aren’t just rescued — they are seen, heard, and deeply cared for. Given the space to heal, to trust again, and to simply be dogs.
Your support helps them:
- Heal from trauma with patience and love
- Rediscover the joy of running
- Stay safe, warm, and surrounded by care
